India and Saudi Arabia are exploring new investment opportunities in the textile and garment sector. A high-level Saudi delegation recently visited New Delhi to meet Indian officials and discuss possible collaborations in manufacturing, trade, and technology within the textile industry. Both nations aim to strengthen their business ties and support future growth in this key sector.
During the meeting, India introduced its major textile programs, the PM MITRA Parks (Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel Parks) and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Man-made fibres and technical textiles. These programs are designed to promote large-scale textile manufacturing, create jobs, and attract global investments. Saudi Arabia showed interest in these initiatives and discussed how they could align with its own industrial development goals.
The collaboration is expected to help both countries expand trade, increase production capacity, and boost exports of technical textiles and garments. India is already one of the world’s largest textile producers, and Saudi Arabia’s investment could provide a big push for technology transfer, innovation, and sustainability in textile production.
In 2024, India was the second-largest supplier of textiles and garments to Saudi Arabia, with exports worth around USD 517.5 million, covering about 11.2% of Saudi Arabia’s total textile imports. Strengthening this partnership can open new markets, create job opportunities, and make both countries key players in the global textile supply chain.
