Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called for India to assert itself as a dominant player in the global readymade garment industry, questioning why the country lags behind Bangladesh despite its vast population and resources. Speaking at an investor meet for the establishment of a textile park under the PM MITRA scheme, he urged the nation to tap into its immense potential and create a globally recognised textile brand.
"If Bangladesh, with a population of 16 crore, can excel in readymade garment exports, why can't India, with 140 crore people, achieve similar success?" Adityanath remarked, emphasizing the need for strategic reforms and market-driven initiatives.
He stressed the importance of leveraging India's vast workforce by providing the right direction and opportunities. "There is a large population that needs work, but there should be someone to show them the way," he stated, underscoring the necessity of skill development and industrial support.
Highlighting Uttar Pradesh's role in the textile sector, Adityanath described the state as India's biggest consumer market, catering to not only its own population but also neighboring regions such as Nepal, Bhutan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand. This, he said, makes Uttar Pradesh an ideal hub for garment manufacturing and export growth.
To strengthen India's competitive edge in the sector, he emphasized the need for comprehensive facilities within the PM MITRA Park, including sewing, dyeing, printing, packaging, and designing, to streamline production and meet global market demands.
With a clear vision for the future, the chief minister’s remarks set the stage for India's readymade garment industry to rise as a global leader, unlocking new economic opportunities and employment avenues.
