Rieter Sets the Stage for a Textile Revolution with the Acquisition of Barmag, Paving the Way for Leadership in Natural and Manmade Fiber Solutions

Rieter has taken a bold step in reshaping the global textile machinery landscape by acquiring Barmag from OC Oerlikon for CHF (CHF stands for Swiss Franc, official currency of Switzerland and Liechtenstein) 713 million. This strategic acquisition significantly enhances Rieter’s position in both the natural and manmade fiber markets, establishing the company as a leader in yarn production technologies.

Barmag, a global pioneer in filament spinning systems, texturing machines, and nonwoven technologies, generated impressive sales of CHF 734 million in 2024, supported by a team of around 2,600 professionals. The company’s innovations, developed in its advanced facilities across Germany and China, have positioned Barmag as a trusted supplier to markets like China, India, Türkiye, and the United States. Its established brands Oerlikon Barmag, Oerlikon Neumag, and Oerlikon Nonwoven further solidify its prominence in the industry.

This acquisition is a perfect complement to Rieter’s existing short-staple fiber machinery business, allowing the company to now offer a complete range of solutions for transforming both natural and synthetic fibers into yarn. With fiber consumption increasingly leaning toward manmade alternatives, Rieter is now uniquely positioned to meet the growing demand across various textile sectors, including fashion, technical textiles, and home textiles.

Financing for the deal has been fully secured, ensuring Rieter’s financial stability while pursuing its ambitious growth trajectory. PCS Holding AG, led by Peter Spuhler, continues to be the largest shareholder, playing a pivotal role in making this acquisition possible.

The combined expertise of Rieter and Barmag brings unmatched potential for innovation and expansion, particularly in the rapidly growing Asia-Pacific region. This acquisition marks the beginning of a new era for Rieter, setting the company on a course toward becoming the undisputed global leader in textile machinery for both natural and manmade fibers.
