Jute Mark India: Paving The Way For Sustainable Growth In The Textile Industry

The Textiles Committee, under the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, hosted an insightful Awareness Workshop on the Jute Mark India (JMI) Scheme on March 10, 2025, at Hotel Radisson Blu, Mumbai. The event aimed to shed light on the significance of the JMI Scheme in promoting jute products both domestically and internationally.

The workshop was led by Kartikay Dhanda, Secretary, Textiles Committee, and Dr. K.S. Muralidhara, Joint Director and Program Head. The highlight of the event was the presence of Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, Government of Maharashtra, Sanjay Waman Sawakare, who emphasized the importance of enhancing jute product quality, fostering research and development, supporting self-sustainability, and strengthening the "Made in India" initiative.

Launched on July 9, 2022, the Jute Mark India (JMI) Scheme serves as a certification program that ensures authenticity and quality assurance for jute products. Each jute product under this initiative is labeled with a JMI logo and a traceable QR code, providing a robust mechanism for artisans and manufacturers to establish credibility and gain access to global markets.

The scheme has seen a promising response, with 26 manufacturers already registered. Notably, Debjani Banerjee, Director of Srishti Lifestyle, became the first manufacturer to register under the scheme. In recognition of this achievement, she was awarded a certificate along with JMI labels.

As India continues to promote sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives, the JMI Scheme plays a pivotal role in reviving the jute industry, supporting artisans, and bolstering India's position in the global textile sector. With initiatives like these, the future of Indian jute products looks brighter than ever.
