A transformative leap for the textile sector has been set in motion with the Indian Textiles Ministry approving a 18.94 billion (approximately $221.25 million) plan to establish a Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel (PM MITRA) Park in Virudhunagar district, Tamil Nadu. This state-of-the-art facility will span 1,052 acres and aims to become a powerhouse of technical textile innovation and integrated processing excellence.
Targeted for completion by September 2026, the park is designed to be a fully integrated manufacturing hub that will attract cutting-edge textile technology, modern processing units, and sustainable production systems under one roof. With a special focus on technical textiles a rapidly growing segment in global markets the complex is poised to elevate the region’s position in the global textile value chain.
The project is expected to mobilise private investments worth 100 billion (around $1.17 billion) and create employment opportunities for nearly 100,000 people, offering a massive boost to the regional economy. The initiative underlines the Centre’s larger vision of making India a global textile manufacturing hub through infrastructure-led growth.
By providing common facilities such as effluent treatment, design centres, warehousing, and skill development institutions, the park will promote ease of doing business and create a robust ecosystem for textile entrepreneurs. Tamil Nadu, already a leader in textile production, is set to strengthen its industrial backbone with this mega initiative one that blends innovation, employment, and economic upliftment in a single bold move.
