The Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) is taking strong steps to deepen textile trade relations between India and Sri Lanka. Under the leadership of Chairman K. Sakthivel, a delegation of Indian fabric exporters recently visited Sri Lanka to explore new avenues of collaboration and market opportunities.
The mission was designed to connect Indian textile manufacturers with Sri Lankan buyers, promote high-quality Indian fabrics, and encourage knowledge sharing that could strengthen the entire textile supply chain. PDEXCIL, a government-backed non-profit body, has long been a driving force in promoting India’s powerloom sector and boosting the export of fabrics and made-up textiles.
This effort is closely aligned with India’s vision of enhancing regional economic integration and enabling small and medium enterprises to expand into global markets. India and Sri Lanka enjoy a rich history of cultural and trade ties, and textile cooperation stands out as a promising growth area. India brings extensive manufacturing capacity, while Sri Lanka’s garment production expertise complements it, creating a mutually beneficial dynamic.
Beyond trade, the initiative also fosters cultural exchange and industrial synergy, strengthening bilateral ties on multiple fronts. By building these partnerships, both nations seek to create jobs, enhance supply chain resilience, and promote sustainable economic growth. The PDEXCIL move marks a meaningful step toward weaving stronger economic and cultural threads between the two neighbours.
