Karnataka to Unveil New Textile Policy 2025-2030 to Boost Investment and Jobs

In a strategic move to revitalize the textile sector in the state, the Karnataka government is set to unveil its new Textile Policy 2025-2030. Announced by Textile Minister Shivanand Patil, the policy aims to attract substantial new investments in the textile and readymade garment sector, with a primary focus on driving industrial growth and creating robust employment opportunities. The government's proactive approach is designed to position Karnataka as a frontrunner in the national textile landscape, fostering a competitive and innovative ecosystem. This initiative is a critical step towards modernizing the industry and enhancing its global competitiveness.

The upcoming policy is not just about attracting capital; it's a comprehensive plan to generate jobs for approximately 2 lakh people. A key part of this strategy involves restructuring the existing framework. The Minister noted that the government has decided to merge the Handloom Development Corporation and the Karnataka State Textiles Infrastructure Development Corporation. This merger, following an audit, is expected to streamline operations and ensure a more efficient allocation of resources. Additionally, to foster innovation and technological advancement, a dedicated textile research center will be established in Belagavi, serving as a hub for future development and skill enhancement.

The policy also outlines plans for an inclusive and forward-looking industry. It will focus on promoting diverse segments, including technical textiles and non-leather footwear, which are being brought under the new framework after positive feedback from stakeholders. The government also plans to protect the interests of traditional handloom weavers by dedicating a specific zone for artisans within the proposed PM Mitra textile park in Kalaburagi. These measures are intended to create a balanced growth model that honors traditional craftsmanship while embracing new-age manufacturing.
